Down to business

Though she retains three separate agents for music markets in Europe, the U.S., and Canada, Brown spends an enormous amount of time on the business end of her career—including several hours of e-mail every day—to nail down details concerning travel visas, contracts, pay, programs, and more.

As a result, she is a bit of an e-mail addict.

"I have to remind myself to use the phone, which is often a better way to communicate. I'm always wondering if I'm being clear in my e-mails, because I am writing in both English and French."

Though she does not have a web site and is far from a natural at self-promotion, Brown knows the importance of keeping her name on people's lists.

"There are a zillion singers out there," she explains. And just like any other form of entertainment, the modern trend favours the newest, hottest, and freshest talent.
